{Une femme Francaise}

I have been here 13 days now. I've taken pictures of buildings, rivers, baguettes, and every other french thing I can imagine. But of all the pictures I've taken, this one is surrounded by the most French culture.

Normally I would probably delete the picture above, there's nothing too appealing about it for me. It's a spot near Place de La Bourse, right next to Le Gironde. To the right there was a middle aged French woman with a bag full of torn up baguette, ready to feed the birds. Immediately after I snapped this photo, the woman started taking pictures of me and my roommate. She continued to do so even after we walked away, then came and started speaking French so fast that I couldn't understand. I gathered that she didn't want her photo taken, that the internet ruins lives and that she was very angry. Apparently she gets her picture taken when she is feeding the birds and she doesn't get paid for it and she has the right to not be photographed. Luckily, my roommate was able to calm her down by telling her that we were tourists (a little bit of a lie), that I was American and that I was not a professional photographer. Also, as you can see, she was not in the picture.
When she heard that I was an American, she completely changed her attitude. She gave me bisous (that cute French cheek kiss), she told me that she LOVED les Americains, and told us to follow her. She walked us down the pier a bit, and started feeling the seagulls so that I could take a picture as a way of saying she was sorry.

I forgave her. For the record, if you ever want to apologize to me, seagulls do the trick.

It's amazing how charming all of these little things are to me. Normally getting yelled at by a woman who was a little eccentric would be a bad part of my day, but overall it just made me happy. Everything is charming here. Life is charming here. Au revoir mes amis.
